Modern Day Heroes

This is a good article from Glamour Magazine, Women Left for Dead—and the Man Who’s Saving Them. We need heroes like Dr. Mukwege. He saved women on their darkest time, converting them to be happy. Two thumbs up!

Luc Cagadoc, a Canadian resident...

Remember this boy Luc Cagadoc? He was reprimand by his school's staff for using spoon and fork instead of using a knife. At last their case is finally over, the Quebec Human Rights Tribunal ordered the school to pay his family $17,000 in moral and punitive damages. It’s about time!

Pinoy_Blogfest 1.0

-Richmonde Hotel, Ortigas Center

The event was a blast. I arrived around 8:30 am. People were just piling up. The program starts with our National Anthem and invocation.

Welcome remarks were done by Ms. Maribelle M. Alba, President and CEO of Great Minds Media, Inc. She talks about how the Internet particularly the social networking pave its way to the Philippines. I assume, you have a Facebook and Multiply account; last is Twitter. Twitter is indeed famous among celebrities. You can follow them and check how they are doing on a daily basis. With Friendster, this site is still strong; in fact according to Maribelle, Friendster is strong in Asia. She also defines blogging as Citizen Journalist. She quotes a definition of Citizen Journalism from Wikipedia as...

Citizen journalism is the concept of members of the public "playing an active role in the process of collecting, reporting, analyzing and disseminating news and information.

This is true. We bloggers play a role to inform and even educate people within our community or outside.

The second speaker is Mr. Abe Olandres of http://www.yugatech.com/ .

He speaks on how to monetize by blogging. I am not familiar with this, my buddy Arvin was not around. I'm sure me missed a lot! He mentioned Nuffnag is doing well here in the Philippines. I haven't maximized this ad service. But I am a registered.

The third speaker was Mr. Ira Panganiban of http://freespits.wordpress.com/. He tackles bloggers as a media practitioners. He defined propaganda as facts that turned twisted. An example of this was Noynoy's psychiatric issue. He said that it is true that Noynoy had a severed depression when his father died. That is a fact. But it got twisted to making him a crazy person. This is wrong.

The last speaker for the morning session was Ms. Yvonnne Chua of Vera Files

Vera Files is published by veteran Filipino journalists taking a deeper look into current Philippine issues. Vera is Latin for “true.”
She emphasized on the code of ethics as bloggers. Journalist have code of ethics while bloggers, have none.

I've learned that, as a blogger, you should know the source. Whether it is authentic or not, we should know where we have the information that you are writing. Take note, Journalists have the right not to divulge their source. Unlike, bloggers, if we get sued; we should identify where, how, and to whom you obtained the information. With the exemption, if it pertains to national security. A good example is when we are at war that results to national security.

In addition, channel 7 is not part of KBP according to Ms. Yvonnne.  I've learned a lot. We didn't realize that it was passed 12 noon. Well it's lunch time! What can I say, food was great! I ate a ton! Arvin was still not around. Ice tea is unlimited. According to one of the staffs, the chef is a Filipino. No wonder. He's mushroom soup was the best!

Yum Yum!

Soup was so delicious! I even get 3 servings! I'll rate their main course, a perfect 10. I munch, munch. I did not realized, my buddy Arvin was still not around that time.

And of course, the dessert! Too bad I was not able to get the names of these courses.

While we were having a bite on our food, the representative from Coke talked about the value of nutrition and of course drinking water. See the picture below. Sorry I was not able to catch the name of the speaker.

And finally, my friend arrived! Luckily, the buffet was waiting for him.

Richmonde's bar:

If you want to go to their open bar, it is open every day. You'll only have to shell out Php425. This includes all you can drink (alcoholic beverages) and food. This is only from 5pm until 8pm.

After devouring Richmonde's masterpiece, we attended the afternoon's break session. We cannot attend all of them though. Here's Gadgets Magazine has in-stored for us on that day.

  • Technology Trends
  • Photography
  • Home Digital Living
  • Mobile Networking
  • Gaming
  • Food & Travel / Health & Fitness
We focus on Food & Travel / Health & Fitness. Though we did go to Technology Trends; learn about graphics is needed to run a high-end Gaming. Sometimes it is bigger than a mother board.

Going back on the food industry; Chef Mikel 'Kel' Zaguirre (one of the chefs in Richmonde and from De La Salle-College of St. Benilde) cooked healthy burger and a salad for us. Someone asked, how much the burger usually cost if ordered from a restaurant, he said roughly Php200-300. Wow! The burger is tasty. I managed to grabbed pictures of the recipes. Only my bebe, Mia can follow this! Not me.

Chef Mikel doing the works. The picture on the left is a Portobello mushroom.

The next recipe is Romaine and crab stick salad roll. Please see the results below:

                                           Close up:

Now we go on to running. Running burns calories! We need to burn our fatty fats. I know we have runners out here. I was once a runner too! Guess this time, I have to push it up against! I am a member of HP Run, but I haven't really join an activity run except the onelasalle run. Anyways, going back to our topic. We have Mr. Sonny Bautista to speaks about the benefits of running. He is a runner enthusiast. I was not able to catch his credentials. I'll ask Arvin and keep you updated on this on this one.

He gave us 6 benefits of running:
  1. weight loss
  2. improves cardiovascular health
  3. slowdowns the aging process
  4. improves your mood (takes away stress)
  5. improves sleep
  6. increases sex drive
Mr. Sonny itemizes some recommended clothing, shoes, and gadgets that we could use.
  • Singlet - should be technical fabric; this is better than cotton
  • Compression gear - this delays fatigue for muscles and have blood flow circulation
  • Shoes - he goes for Zoot; this shoes is designed for running

  • Watch - Nike have the ability to monitor calories and time
  • Hydration belt - use to carry water and Gatorade
  • Chocolate energy bar
  • Hammer gell - energy food
  • Hydra pack - this is better that hydration belt because it carries more water and Gatorade; it has a hose for easy drinking  -edited--

During the session, I test the massage chair below. This chair cost around Php200K++.  You can check their site here, Isukoshi. The chair was really good. If you are a newbie, the advisable massage time is 30 minutes. What good about this chair is, it is fully automatic. It slowly caresses your back, work on your feet; rub your knees and arms. It does everything. It has music too!

Two thumbs up!

After break sessions, next event, Raffle and cocktails! I was eying for the 24 inch LG LCD. I take home an LG Laptop bag. That's all right, Arvin has none, haha.

-on Gordon-

Hi, I would like to share this message from my girlfriend Mia. :)
Why we are routing to for Gordon.

------------------------

I don’t want to eradicate his personal achievements as they were already obvious. He was successful in all his appointment/elected positions and bills passed – Red Cross volunteer, SBMA leader, Olongapo Mayor, Department of Tourism - WOW Philipines, and Automated Poll election.

Based on my personal experience, I want to... share a story why I’m voting for him.

------------------------
Pinatubo Eruption
------------------------
Back in 1992 when Mt. Pinatubo erupted, I was able to chance upon Richard "Dick" Gordon when Red Cross went to the evacuation center in Florida Blanca in Pampanga to give relief good for the victims. Yes, our family was one of the victims in Bacolor Pampanga. First floor and almost second floor of our house was submerged by Lahar. I just knew him as one of the volunteers for Red Cross and I never knew that he was also Politician that time not until my Aunt told me. Pardon me for not knowing because that time I’m not fond of watching news so I don’t know that much about current events and who’s the mayor of whose town.

I told my aunt “ahhh kaya pala masipag at kunware matulungin kasi baka nagpapabango lang at gusto ulet tumakbong Mayor ng Florida sa susunod na election”

“hinde sya Mayor dito sa Pampanga, Mayor sya sa Olongapo” My aunt said.

“ahh talaga.. kala ko dito eh, eh di matulungin talaga sya kasi di naman pala nya kailangan magpag good shot sa atin kung hinde sya dito tatakbo…”

That was the first marked of Gordon to me. We stayed in evacuation center for 2 weeks and I can still recall him visited our area twice or thrice to give relief goods.

----------------
Subic Tour
----------------

I just heard how disciplined the people in Subic was. When I went there in year 2003, I have experienced it personally. When we we’re in a bus going to Subic for a tour, our bus driver was reckless in NLEX, he overdrives, stop, go, stop go.. that I was even holding breath as I really wanted to throw up. But, when we got to Subic, he was suddenly transformed to a different person. He followed traffic lights, stopped on PedXing even when there’s no car crossing on the other lane. I saw how organized and disciplined the people were in Subic and I heard in news as they progress during the time of FVR so I said that if Gordon will run for higher position e.g. Senator or President, he’ll surely get my vote.

------------------------
WOW Philippines
------------------------
Gordon was appointed as secretary of DOT. For the first time, I saw tarpaulin hanging in Edsa promoting tourism from our Provinces. I said, “galing talaga ni Gordon, bakit hinde ito naisip dati pa”. I remember again that time when Gordon was appointed as secretary of DOT, there were massive kidnapping from our provinces by Abu Sayaff. And yet, inspite of it all, he was able to encourage tourist (local and internation) to visit our beautiful Islands.

My berks also visited WOW Philippines in Intramuros that time and in fact, it was my first time to visit the place.

----------------------
First time Voter
----------------------

Yes, I’m a first time voter and I’m so excited to vote. Why? I just turned 18 hahaha. When I went to Comelec last year and approach one personnel that I want to register, he asked me “Are you 18 already?” and then I showed him my ID with my date of birth on it. He was surprised. For those who know how old I am, they would agree to me that it was really a HUGE compliment hahaha (gusto ko tlaga isali yun usapan, bakit ba?)… .. So to continue…

When I first saw Villar and Mar infomercial at the start of Year 2009, I said “I will never, ever cast my vote to these two candidates, masyadong excited.” I have a bad discernment that they have hidden agenda that’s why they were campaigning early (mark my word!).

Last year as I’ve watched Kris’ Eulogy, part of her speech was she and Noy are in position to continue what their parents have started for this country. Believe me when I heard that, it does sound to me that she was already campaigning for her brother. I guess her speech drew everything out of proportion when Mar concealed and decided to run for Vice President and convinced Noy to run for the higher position instead. This doesn’t surprise me anymore. Seeing those millions of people who have sympathized and participated in the funeral Parade of our late President Cory was really unfathomable and it gives me goose bumps. But what gives me more goose bumps was when an opportunist/evil took his chance again to acquire those masses and put someone on the pedestal to play as a saviour. History repeats itself and yet again. Filipino has to think forward not backward.

We are to change our mentality – really! I’m voting for Gordon because of his track record and platform. On debates, he is a favorite of most students because he speaks spontaneously with basis and facts. One time, I watched debate and they were asked who is their inspiration or hero? Chiz answered none because no one qualified yet for being a hero. Come on! Translation – wala akong maisip eh kaya wala na lang hehehe – that was the lamest answer I ever heard, knowing that it came from Chiz. On the other hand, Gordon answered that it was his father :-)

When have you ever been inspired by a Filipino politician? Me, it was when Gordon ran. After the election, whether Win or lose, he’ll still be my president. I can sleep well at night knowing that I have voted for the one who deserves to run our country not by survey/popularity.

-------------
Disclaimer
-------------

Alright, I’m posting this on my wall not to invite debates. If you are PRO- Gordon, feel free to post comments and let’s encourage the masses. For those who opposed then so be it but no drooling please, post your comment on your wall instead. You’re not welcome to post your comment here hehe :p

Company Coffee Talk

All right, after more than 2 years as an IT Support in HP, finally, my buddies (comprising Rocky and James) will be joining the Quarter 2 meeting at 9 Waves, San Mateo, Rizal. Wohoo! 9 Waves, here we come. Check there site, http://9wavesphilippines.com/ .  I have to start packing now. It’s already 9 in the evening.  Call time is at 6.30 in the morning.

Earlier, my morning shift is always full of surprises, keeps me alive when clock strikes at 6 am. I’m glad my faithful Cab Driver, Danny offered to pick me up before 5 am.

Grabbed my usual breakfast, at McDo; found out that they don’t offer hamdesal with coffee which is only 50 bucks. How come? I love hamdesal. And it’s only 50 bucks! They replaced it with cheese. The price starts at 64. McDo’s coffee is my personal favorite. Keeps me awake and of course makes me think to every issue I encountered.

Around passed 10 am, Emil, my colleague came in. Not to help me but to cancel his chinatrust; Emil did cancelled it. It will just bury him financially. On the same hour, James, texted me; he wants us to have lunch together. His training was cancelled. I had sinigang na bangus while James had somkey’s hotdogs. After lunch, we have a team meeting. And there we found out that we are going to tomorrow’s coffee talk.

Until my next blog. I’ll have fun, fun, fun tomorrow. See you guys around!

Singing Bee – April 9, 2010

Finally, my PExer buddies and I went on our EB again after a long, long time. I forgot when the last time we had our singing competition was. Oh, thanks Kerwin for the picture. I have to say you are a certified photographer.

My PExer buddies, Jon, the ultimate crush ng bayan; Jary, the programmer; Kerwin, the photographer and model, and Ivan, the bookworm. Unfortunately, Ivan was not able to come because her son was sick. To add to the family, Aya, Jon’s wife and of course their little Angel. Old time buddy, Mariel was on the scene too.

We first dine in at kapirori, Greenbelt while waiting for Kerwin and Jary. I love their cold coffee. This will keep me awake on our singing competition. We head to RedBox, Greenbelt. To get their rates, just go to this site, RedBox .

-Ang tatlong Bugoy, Me, Kerwin, Jon and Little Aya

We took the Happy hour, 3-7pm, Php299 per head. It came with 2 free drinks. We came in late so that was the problem. They don’t offer hourly rates unlike other KTV. Nevertheless, I know my friends love to sing as much as I do, we still consume the place until 7pm. Kerwin had to leave early because he needs to go to Naga that night. Please do check our photos here, Kerwin is in charge with the photos, while Jon, Mariel and I on the microphones. Jary never sing!
More pictures, here .

Until our next getaway. Next time, let’s have a swim! Just like old times.

Thanks Kerwin for my profile picture. You rock!

First Journal - Seven Suites

Hello, well, I do not know how to start, since this will be my first blog, my buddy Arvin religiously convincing me to start a blog. So here it is. Let's start with my first event that I was invited. This was at Seven Suites in Antipolo Rizal (March 27, 2010). This was Earth Hour too.

This is the telescope that Seven Suites is bragging about. According to the Marketing Head, Joanna, this telescope is the eight largest scopes in the Philippines. The largest is of course in UP Observatory.

More photos at my facebook account,Seven Suites photos .

I always love coffee.

Going back to the event, I did saw Saturn there. The sky was pitching black, you can see all the stars and would you believe it, planets too! Well, I know I've heard this from my science class way, way back. It's good to be refreshed again. I can locate constellation, Orion anywhere!

As Arvin and I walk through the corridors of Seven Suites, we bump in to Mr. Jonahmar Salvosa (guy from the right), a sculptor. His work is for sale. Here's a sample work below:

Jonahmar was accommodating, he even asks for my calling card. This is for now. Until my next Blog.
